National Women's History Month
March has been known as Women's History Month since 1987. Women’s History Month celebrates the often-overlooked contributions of women in history, society, and culture. March is selected as the month for observing Women’s History Month because it corresponds with International Women’s Day on March 8.

The month-long commemoration began with Women’s History Day in 1978, organized by the Sonoma, California school district. Hundreds of students participated in the essay competitions, many presentations were given, and a parade was held in Santa Rosa. The idea caught on and, a few years later, school districts, communities, and organizations all over the country were celebrating the day. In 1980, the National Women’s History Alliance championed for the holiday to be observed as a national week, and this was backed by President Jimmy Carter who issued the first proclamation declaring the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week. The following year, Congress forwarded a resolution establishing a national observance. Six years later in 1986, the expansion of the event to the whole month of March was successfully petitioned by the National Women’s History Project.

What’s coming to a computer near you… High-speed internet! The Biden administration recently revealed that 48 million low-income households will have access to lowered high-speed internet costs. As part of last year’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, 20 internet providers have agreed to either increase speeds or cut prices to $30 a month for households that qualify. President Biden says high-speed internet is a “necessity” and that the new plan will be fast enough for a family of four to work from home and do schoolwork at the same time. Check affordableconnectivity.gov to see if you qualify and apply!
